    LaBante London

    A black LaBante handbag.
    Tia Black Vegan Hobo Bag

    from: LaBante London

LaBante London is a company that makes vegan leather bags including backpacks, handbags, and more. All of their bags are 100% vegan and cruelty-free, which means they don’t include any animals-derived materials, glues, or dyes.

LaBante London is not only vegan, but also focuses on sustainability. They use recycled materials and avoid the use of PVC. Their bags are also fully biodegradable.

They have several types of bags to choose from, but one of their Hobo Bags (seen above) would be a great choice for anyone who needs a spacious bag to carry lots of items.

I personally enjoy having a big bag with me everywhere I go so I can keep my wallet, hand sanitizer, sunglasses, makeup, and anything else I may want with me.

The Tia Vegan Hobo Bag has a comfortable shoulder strap and a spacious interior. It has two slip pockets on the exterior (one on the front and one on the back) for items you can quickly grab.

    Pro: Very spacious.

    Con: Non-adjustable strap.

See all of the bags that LaBante London offers here.

    Pixie Mood

    Phoebe Crossbody
    A round blue crossbody bag.

Pixie Mood makes vegan backpacks, clutches, crossbody bags, totes, wallets, and more. They use a variety of different vegan materials to make their bags, including recycled bottles and cork. They do not use any PVC.

One of my favorite bags from Pixie Mood is their Phoebe Crossbody. This bag comes in several colors and it is a cute round bag. It has two zipper compartments and a front pocket.

This round bag only has a diameter of 8 inches, but it still has enough room for your cards and cell phone.

Pro: More affordable than many other vegan bags.

    Con: Fairly small.

See all of the bags that Pixie Mood offers here.

    Petit Vour

Petit Vour isn't a handbag brand, but rather an online shop that has beauty products, bags, shoes, and more, all from cruelty-free companies!

Their selection of bags includes tote bags, crossbody bags, shoulder bags, mini bags, and clutches from various brands.

They have some really cute vegan handbags from a brand called Angela Roi. The Cher Mini Signet is a fairly spacious bag despite being called, “mini.”

This bag has a magnetic button closure and a small zip compartment in the center with open sides.

Pro: Comes with a removable strap so you can carry this as a handbag or sling it over your shoulder.

Con: This bag doesn’t have a full zip closure over the main compartment, so your items won't be fully secure in the bag.

You can browse some more Angela Roi bags here.

    GUNAS New York

    A white handbag.

GUNAS is a 100% vegan and cruelty-free brand that makes a variety of handbags. Choose from totes, satchels, crossbody bags, wallets, and backpacks.

They use several vegan materials to make their bags, such as polyurethane coated cotton canvas, microfibers, recycled plastic bottles, recycled paperboard, and recycled metals.

GUNAS also uses a plastic-free vegan material made from Mulberry plant leaf pulp. This material is water proof, lightweight, and ages like real leather.

A great choice from GUNAS would be the Madison bag. You can put the strap of this bag over your shoulder, or hold in in your hand. It also has a detachable strap so you can wear it as a crossbody bag.

This bag has a zip closure for the main compartment, as well as a zip pocket on the front.

Pro: Removable strap for more ways to wear this bag.

Con: Can't even think of one. This bag is near perfect!

See all of the bags that GUNAS offers here.

    Corkor

A crossbody bag made of cork.

Corkor is a brand that makes vegan bags, wallets, and accessories from cork. They ensure that their cork is harvested by removing the outer bark of the tree without harming the tree so that the bark can be replenished. They also use non-toxic water-based inks and no chemicals (such as those used in processing leather).

Cork fabric is water repellent, stain-resistant, and scratch-proof, so buying a Corkor bag is a great option if you want a vegan handbag that will last for years.

The Crossbody Pouch is a great crossbody bag that will fit your wallet and phone. It has a zip closure over the main compartment, as well as a slip pouch on the front. It also has a removable and adjustable shoulder strap.

Pro: This crossbody bag comes with a small passage hole on the back for earphones.

    Con: Quite small.

See all of the bags that Corkor offers here.

    Svala

A backpack purse made with cork.
Gemma Backpack Purse - Natural Cork

Svala makes vegan bags and accessories with premium vegan materials that are free of PVC. They use polyurethane, Pinatex (from pineapple leaf fiber), and cork. For the lining of their bags, Svala uses fabric made from organic cotton and recycled plastic bottles.

Svala has a great page on their website where they explain why they make vegan products.

The Gemma Backpack Purse is really cool because it can be worn as a backpack or slung over one shoulder. It comes with two straps that are both adjustable and removable. It is made with polyurethane vegan leather and has a faux snakeskin pattern.

Pro: Can be a shoulder bag or a backpack!

Con: There is a zip pocket inside this bag, but the main compartment only has a magnetic snap closure.

You can check out all of the vegan handbags from Svala here.

    FetchBagsShop

This Etsy shop is where Jackie sells her awesome, minimalist vegan bags. She makes crossbody bags, fannypacks, backpacks, and more.

I love the simple look of these bags. They are functional, but still cute! I would say they are the best vegan bags I can find for casual, everyday use.

The Slouchy Crossbody Bags are popular on this Etsy shop and they are big enough to fit everything you need.

These bags are made with canvas and cotton and they come with 3 slip pockets inside with a zipper for the main compartment to keep your belongings secure.

Pro: Very spacious for a crossbody bag.

Con: Isn't fancy, but that may be a pro for some people!

Check out all of the bags that FetchBagsShop offers here.

    JW PEI

    Several handbags from JW PEI.

JW PEI makes bags and accessories with vegan leather made from polyurethane. They also use canvas and recycled plastic bottles in the construction of their bags.

Their Eva Shoulder Bag is super fashionable with a faux croc pattern embossed on vegan leather. This bag comes in several colors and has a detachable strap. The zip closure will help keep your items secure.

Pro: Comes in various colors and more affordable than many other vegan bags.

Con: The strap on this bag is not adjustable.

Explore all of the vegan handbags from JW PEI here.

    Call It Spring

A pink handbag with a gold buckle and strap.

Call It Spring is an entirely vegan store that sells mostly shoes, but also bags and accessories.

The Gurlpleaze bag (seen above) comes in a light pink, black or white color. It is quilted with an adjustable crossbody strap and a magnetic snap closure. This bag is made with a polyurethane vegan leather.

Pro: Inner zip compartment and adjustable strap.

Con: Main compartment does not have a zip closure.

Shop all of the bags from Call It Spring here.

Get the Gurlpleaze bag on Amazon here.

    Non-Vegan Materials

When looking for a vegan bag, it is best to get one that is labeled as vegan. Look into the company that makes the bag to be sure. If you see a bag that isn’t labeled as vegan, you can check the materials that the bag is made with. Here are some common non-vegan materials to avoid:

    • Animal leather
    • Silk
    • Fur
    • Wool
    • Snakeskin
    • Animal-based glues

    Vegan Materials for Bags

Here are some commonly used materials for vegan handbags:

    • Recycled bottles
    • Cork
    • Vegan leathers (from polyurethane, pineapple fibers, apple skins, etc.)
    • Canvas
    • Cotton
    • Straw

Some people have concerns about the use of plastic (such as polyurethane and polyvinyl chloride) for vegan handbags, but this can actually be more sustainable than the production of animal leather.

The production of animal leather contributes to greenhouse gas pollution, as well as the pollution of water from harmful chemicals washed into water sources. Take a look at how GUNAS explains the use of plastic for vegan materials.

A more sustainable option that is becoming quite popular is cork. Check out the bags from Corkor if you are interested in bags that are sustainably made from cork.
